After doing a bit of ‘ask the audience’ over on my Instagram, a suggestion came back that I could do a post on how to restyle midi dresses for the cooler weather.

I thought this was a cracking idea (Thanks Gemma!) as I love a midi dress in the summer with bare legs and sandals and then with tights and boots in winter.

You may notice a slight change in style midway through this post, I discovered that instead of manually removing backgrounds from images using paint (what year is this?!) Canva will do it for me.

So the first the images took an hour each, while the next two were ratted out in five minutes. Grr.

Onwards and upwards, I can't bring myself to do the other three out of principle.

So! How can you restyle one of your midi dresses from summer bearing in mind the change in weather?

Look 1

I am a huge fan of a polka dot, and this dress would not look out of place in my wardrobe - I just think they add something to an item of clothing without it being overwhelming! The jacket too is amazing, but I think I may end up in the spare room if I buy another coat!

So going from simple plimsolls and a denim jacket, I think a big cozy coat and these chunky boots would be a great way to utilise it - obvz thick black tights too!

Dorothy Perkins Jersey Spot Dress £35 (sizes from 8-22 available)

Dorothy Perkins Organic Blue Acid Denim Jacket £32 (sizes from 6-22 available)

Vila Faux Fur Pink Coat £50 (only small sizes left - I'm gutted)

Black Chunky Chelsea Boots £27.99 (all sizes available)

Look 2

I actually have this dress in the pink leopard print, but I also have a similar one in black and white polka dots all from New Look - so I can personally vouch for the versatility of this!

Red Satin Animal Print Slip Dress £25.99 (sizes 8-18) also available in black and pink

ASOS Design Heeled Mules £22.50 (all sizes)

Black Ribbed Puff Sleeve Top £14.99 (sizes 8-16 available)

Look 3

This dress is so dreamy! It's really low in stock right now, but is still full-price so I'm gonna live in hope that it comes back in the larger sizes.

I thought that browns would look better styled with this rather than black as it can look too harsh - but tell me what you think!

Dorothy Perkins Yellow Dobby Floral Dress £42 (only small sizes available)

ASOS Design Platform Boots in Tan £35 (most sizes available)

Dorothy Perkins Tan Suedette Biker £42 (all sizes available)

Dorothy Perkins Ivory Longline Cardigan £21 (all sizes available)

ASOS Design Flared Heel Boots in Brown £35 (most sizes available)

Look 4

Ah yes, the transition to the new style of image is seamless.

I like this dress as a summer dress, mainly because a lot of the summer dresses are white or very light and that's not really my bag. I love how this can be styled quite delicately or just by adding Dr Marten it becomes quite moody and cool.

Dorothy Perkins Black Floral Split Midi £26.25 (most sizes available)

New Look Flatform Sandals in Black £14.99 (limited sizes)

Look 5

This is another outfit I actually own and so can vouch for. The dress is a lovely light material making it super comfy on. By layering a jumper over it you can almost make it look like a skirt with a matching collar - and I'm quite into that idea.

New Look White Spot Shirt Dress £12.99 (limited sizes)

Dorothy Perkins Grey Ivana Trainers £18 (all sizes available)

New Look Black Pointed Chelsea Boots £27.99 (limited sizes)

Phew. Is it bad that i'm now filling my online shopping baskets..?

I hope this type of fashion post has interested you - as always I'd love any feedback, did you purchase any of the products I've listed?
